Julie-Anne & Élise

Linguistic services managers

Julie-Anne Proulx and Élise Guillemette, our linguistic services managers, have each travelled out-of-the-ordinary career paths. Before arriving at Bleublancrouge, they worked together at Cossette as translators and revisors. And prior to that, each enjoyed an eclectic variety of professional experiences.

It’s probably because they don’t fit the stereotypical mold that they like doing things their way. While these two young professionals are naturally passionate about words, they see their roles as encompassing more than mere translation. For them, adapting a text is all about feeling what it’s really saying, knowing how to drill down and grasp that core—rough edges or subtleties and all. It’s a skill that not just anyone has, and one that Julie-Anne and Élise each began to hone long before coming to our industry.

Earlier in her career, Julie-Anne was a video clip art director and property master in the film business, while Élise worked in London as a literary agent—in fact, she’s putting the wraps on a TV script right now. So it’s safe to say that each feels right at home in the creative world. They’ve worked in every form of media—the Web, store signage, consumer email, promo materials, and more.

Apple twigged on to their expertise shortly after Julie-Anne and Élise joined BBR in 2009 and proposed an unusual business model—integrating agency wordsmiths and creatives—along with a process that uses cutting-edge software. They made their mark by finding the “right voice” for Apple, inflecting its Quebec communications with just a soupçon of local linguistic color. With this dynamic duo partnering to do such an efficient job, Bleublancrouge’s brand language department is now cultivating new clients. And isn’t it appropriate that the word that best describes their team is the same in English and French? Talent.
